Bail, remand pleas for Shawkat rejected

Court Correspondent :The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Thursday turned down the bail and remand prayers submitted on behalf of BNP Chairperson’s adviser and journalist leader Shawkat Mahmud in a case filed with Paltan Police Station of the city.Magistrate Mohammad Ataul Haque of the CMM Court rejected the petitions after hearing. However, the court allowed police to interrogate Shawkat at the jail gate. Earlier, Sub-Inspector Mohammad Mamun Munshi sought 10 days’ remand for Shawkat Mahmud, while his counsel Md Sanaullah Miah filed bail petition on his behalf. On August 18, Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested Shawkat Mahmud from in front of Samurai Convention Centre in the city’s Panthapath area.On August 19, the police of Ramna Police Station put Shawkat on a three-day remand, on August 24, he was placed on 4 days’ remand, on August 27, on a day’s and on September 1, Shawkat was placed on four days’ remand of the cases filed with Paltan, Rampura and Motijheel police stations.
