IEDCR receives 500 advanced kits for testing Covid-19

China has donated 500 ‘Real time PCR kits’ the most advanced kits to detect Coronavirus or COVID-19.
“We thank the Chinese government for donating the kits to Bangladesh,” said director of Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Prof Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora at a press conference after receiving the kits.
The kits arrived by a flight of China Airlines on Tuesday afternoon, said Yan Hualong,
Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister (Counsellor) of Chinese Embassy.
China has given 500 sets of what it calls, the ‘most advanced kits’, to Bangladesh to identify coronavirus as a gesture of goodwill and strong faith that Bangladesh has in China in winning the battle against COVID-19.
“Even at its most difficult times, China never forgets to lend a helping hand,” Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming said at a meeting with Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.
“These are real-time fluorescent RT-PCR kits for detecting the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and are the first such donation to any country from China,” Yan Hualong told UNB.
He said, more such kits will be provided if any case is confirmed in Bangladesh.
A viral outbreak that began in China has infected more than 75,000 people globally and claimed 2,118 lives in mainland China with two in Hong Kong, three in Japan, one each in Taiwan, France, Philippines till Thursday, reports AP. The virus took a life of an U.S. citizen in China as well, the report says.
