Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar’s latest film Bala has been ruling the roost at the box office. The film, through its characters, touches upon the topic of lookism.
While Khurrana’s character battles premature balding, Bhumi’s character gives out an important social message that self-respect and self-love are extremely important in a judgmental, myopic visioned society.
Speaking about breaking the strict beauty standards set by society, Bhumi said in an interview with ETimes, “When people think you’re not perfect, and that’s the idea. The idea is to break these beauty standards that the world has created. There’s this mould that has been created for beauty.”
She went on to add, “If you’re fair, you’re beautiful, or if you have like lustrous hair you’re beautiful or whatever like you have to be this high, or this figure, all of that is bulls**t. God has made all of us the same, we are all made up of the same ingredients, we have the same organs functioning in our body.”
