The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has sought an explanation from Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Zafrullah Chowdhury on his comments over its judges. The ICT-2, led by Justice Obaidul Hassan, on Sunday ordered Zafrullah to appear before the court with his explanation on July 22. On July 6, the ICT heard a plea seeking to implicate Zafrullah and try him for contempt over his comments on its judges. Freedom fighters Monoranjan Ghoshal, Ali Asgar, and Nazrul Islam and Kamal Pasha Chowdhury, the organiser of a Ganajagaran Mancha faction and one FM Shahin, filed the plea. Their lawyer Khan Mohammad Shamim Aziz said the ICT heard the plea on July 6 and passed the order on Sunday. Zafrullah had to stand on the dock for an hour on June 10 for contempt of court by signing up for a statement of concern for British citizen David Bergman on his conviction. Later, he said the verdict by the ICT-2 stems from ‘ mental illness’ of the three judges, whose orders to hang war criminals Abdul Quader Molla and Mohammad Kamaruzzaman have been executed. The tribunal also fined him Tk 5,000. It said he would have to serve one month in jail, if he did not pay the fines, but the Supreme Court later stayed the fines following a petition by the Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder. –bdnews24.com
