ICT expo to showcase ‘Digital Bangladesh’

Digital World 2016, the country’s biggest ICT expo, will be held at the International Convention City, Bashundhara, from October 19-21.
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu disclosed the dates during a press briefing at the conference room of PID on Sunday.
The theme of this year is ‘Nonstop Bangladesh’, he said.
There will be 12 seminars alongside ICT exhibition in the country’s Digital World, organised by the ICT Division in collaboration with Bangladesh Computer Council, Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) and Access to Information (a2i) programme, said Inu.
Alongside the private organisations, some 40 government agencies, including ministries, divisions and departments, will participate in the event. Over 200 ICT experts and investors, including 43 foreigners, will join the seminars, he added.
Besides, seven ministers concerned from seven countries will be present at the inauguration of the fair and will take part in the ministerial conference.
Some 5 lakh people are expected to visit the Digital World this year, he hoped.
The Minister said following the advice and direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ICT adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the income from IT sector jumped to 700 million US dollars from 26 million US dollars in the last seven and a half an year.
Meanwhile, State Minister for ICT Junaid Ahmed Palak said “We are going forward according to the Prime Minister’s announcement for building a Digital Bangladesh and the recognition of the different international organisations are the proofs of this. Bangladesh will turn into middle-income country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041 through the involvement of Digital Bangladesh.”
ICT Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder, Executive Director of BCC SM Ashraful Islam and Project Director of Access to Information (a2i) Programme and Director General of Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Kabir bin Anwar were, among others, present at the press briefing.
