Order on Bergman: ICT-2 notice against New York Times

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) on Wednesday issued a notice against the New York Times, asking an explanation from it regarding its comments on the tribunal’s order against British journalist David Bergman and
the statements of 49 dignitaries in this regard.
In a suo-moto move, the three-member tribunal, headed by its Chairman Justice Obaidul Hassan, issued the notice against the New York newspaper. The tribunal in its order asked The New York Times, to submit its reply by February 20 and it would pass an order in this regard on February 23.
David Bergman is a British journalist residing in Bangladesh and works for an English newspaper of Dhaka. He is also the son-in-law of the eminent jurist of the country Dr Kamal Hossain.
The tribunal earlier imposed a fine of Taka five thousand on Bergman on December 2 last year for his comments on sub-judice matters at the tribunal in his personal blogsite. The tribunal also asked him to stay in the court room until the proceedings was ended. It also ruled that if Bergman failed to pay the fine within a week he would have to suffer seven days imprisonment.
