Business Report :
A two-day international conference on ‘Global Economic Recovery’ will begin in Dhaka from October 25, with the participation of global and local dignitaries, ministers, economists and leaders of business community from different countries.
International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh (ICCB) will organise the conference titled “Global Economic Recovery: Asian Perspective” to mark its 20 years of presence in Bangladesh at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city.
ICCB President Mahbubur Rahman came up with the disclosure while addressing a press conference on Wednesday at the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) in the capital.
The organiser is expected to be attended by 500 delegates representing ministers, industry and business leaders, experts, economists, ICC leaders and academics from home and abroad.
The world economy, five years after the global financial crisis, is showing signs of bouncing back this year with Asia, led by China, Japan and India, is playing a significant role, ICCB president Rahman said.
“From the perspective of a developing country that aims to attain middle income country by 2021, we are going to organise such a big event,” he said.
It is expected that Asia will continue to lead the way for sustained world growth and world leaders have to prioritise development of an integrated global strategy to sustain the projected world growth momentum, he opined.
The ICCB conference will allow stakeholders representing public and private sectors, industry and business leaders, policymakers, think-tanks and academics to share their thoughts and ideas on the strategies that the Asian countries can adopt to maintain sustained economic growth, he lamented.
It will also be an opportunity for the country’s business leaders and policymakers not only to explore new horizons of business, but make an effective use of international opportunities through interaction with the delegates coming from abroad, Rahman mentioned.
The conference has been divided into four sessions to focus on particular themes, including global economic recovery as a contemporary reality; Asian growth; realities and challenges; Trade; Does the Bail Outcome Hold Promise for the Future? and Promoting Investment in Asia.
The upcoming conference on global economic recovery is being organized, for the first time, by all the major chambers and associations of the country who have joined hands together to arrange such international conference, opined Rahman.
Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association are among co-organisers of the conference.
