Bangladesh suffered yet another defeat in the ICC T20 World Cup and this time they lost to South Africa by six wickets in their Group-1 match at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday.
Sent into bat first, Bangladesh scored 84 off 18.2 overs.
In reply, South Africa reached the winning target making 86 for the loss of four wickets when they had 39 balls to spare.
Bangladesh lost their wickets in regular intervals and the batters of Bangladesh failed to build any notable partnership.
Six-down Mahedi Hasan, opener Liton Das and fifth-down Shamim Hossain were the three batters, who could reach double digit figures.
Mahedi Hasan made 27 runs from 25 balls featuring two fours and a sixer. Liton Das scored 24 runs from 36 balls including one four. Shamim Hossain knocked 11 runs.
Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada grabbed three wickets each instead of eight and 20 runs respectively. Kagiso Rabada was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Tabriz Shamsi claimed two wickets in the space of 21 runs.
Besides, Dwaine Pretorius took one wicket for 11 runs.
Right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed gave his team early breakthrough as opener Reeza Hendricks (4) was trapped leg before wicket by right-arm pacer when South Africa’s total was six.
Then right-arm spinner Mahedi Hasan struck as opener Quinton de Kock (16) was bowled out by the right-arm spinner when South Africa’s score was 28 for the loss of two wickets.
Second-down Aiden Markram (0) was caught at the slip by Mohammad Naim off Taskin Ahmed when South Africa’s total was 33 for the loss of three wickets.
After Markran’s dismissal, Rassie van der Dussen and Temba Bahuma repaired the damage adding together 47 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Dussen was caught at the mid-on by Shoriful Islam off Nasum Ahmed when South Africa’s score was 80 for the loss of four wickets.
Dussen scored 22 from 27 balls with two fours.
Then, Bahuma and David Miller helped their side to overhaul the winning target.
Bahuma remained unbeaten with 31. His 28-ball captain’s knock had three fours and a sixer.
Taskin Ahmed captured two wickets at the cost of 18 runs, while Mahedi Hasan and Nasum Ahmed took one wicket each for 19 and 22 runs respectively.
