The International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Wednesday gave permission to the investigation agency to interrogate two war crime suspects Muhibur Rahman Baro Mia and Mujibur Rahman Angur Mia on March 16 at ‘Safe Home’ in the city’s Dhanmondi area.
The tribunal also asked the investigation agency to submit the progressive report of the investigation against them on April 16
about their involvement in the crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
Prosecutor Advocate Sultan Mahmud Simon prayed for the tribunal’s permission to grill the two suspects, hailing from Baniachang of Hobiganj, at the Safe Home, pleading that the investigators needed to quiz them further about their involvement in the 1971 crimes.
“They committed different crimes against humanity during the Liberation War. Investigation agency has already found evidences against them. Investigators need more information from them. We hope the investigation agency will be able to do it if they are allowed to interrogate the suspects at Safe Home,” he said.
Considering the prosecutor’s plea, the tribunal allowed the investigation agency to interrogate the suspects at the Safe Home. The tribunal also directed the jail authorities to take necessary steps for the treatment of the two. Baro Mia has been suffering from eye complications, while Angur Mia is a diabetes patient.
The two brothers allegedly formed the Razakar force in Hobiganj area and collaborated with the Pakistani occupation army to fight against the freedom fighters and to foil the Liberation War in 1971.
Earlier, the law enforcement agency arrested Baro Mia and Angur Mia, the two siblings, on February 10 and the tribunal sent them to the custody on February 12. They are accused of committing crimes like murder, torture, arson, confinement and deportation during the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
