The Central Intelligence Bureau on Friday warned of a possible fidayeen style attack by Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) or Islamic State (ISIS) on the occasion of Buddha Purnima i.e. May 12, in West Bengal or Bangladesh. According to the IB, the attack could be carried out at a monastery or a temple. Following the alert issued by the IB, West Bengal has beefed up security across temples as well as monasteries in the state.
Giving more details, the IB also said that the fidayeen could be impersonating a pregnant lady, entering a temple and carrying out the said attack.
“We have received an alert. We have strengthened security outside the temples in the city as well as other parts of the state. We are taking no chances,” said a senior official of West Bengal Police in Kolkata.
“A similar alert was ignored by Sri Lanka authorities and we saw the number of casualties. We have immediately responded to this input and alerted all our officials to maintain highest level of alertness and preparedness to prevent any such attacks,” added the officer.
A fortnight ago, a message was released by the pro-ISIS telegram channels, warning of an attack in West Bengal or Bangladesh.
