Akshay Kumar has finally broken his silence on his citizenship controversy and said that he never hid the fact that he holds a Canadian passport. The superstar was slammed badly for not participating in the election after a His wife, Twinkle Khanna, was seen at polling booth casting her vote minus her husband. Then on Tuesday at the screening of film Blank, when he was asked about how he would react to the criticism over his absence from the polling booth, he dismissed the question with a smile and walked off.
Akshay Kumar had revealed during the promotions of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017) that he has been bestowed with honorary citizenship by the Canadian Government. He has addressed the latest controversy thus on his Twitter page, “I really don’t understand the unwarranted interest and negativity about my citizenship. I have never hidden or denied that I hold a Canadian passport. It is also equally true that I have not visited Canada in the last seven years. I work in India and pay all my taxes in India. While all these years, I have never needed to prove my love for India to anyone, I find it disappointing that my citizenship issue is constantly dragged into needless controversy, a matter that is personal, legal, non-political, and of no consequence to others. I would like to continue contributing in my small way to the causes that I believe in and make India stronger and stronger.”
