Shakib Al Hasan was suggested by Doctor to do surgery before Asia Cup. But he decided to do surgery after the Asia Cup. However Shakib concerned about his fitness as he is still suffering from finger injury. He is not in practice for a long time.
Bangladesh T20I and Test captain Shakib Al Hasan suffered from finger injury from last January while he was fielding during the final match of tri-series. He played T20I series against Afghanistan and later Windies series with finger injury. Though he put injection for just removing pain.
After the end of the series, he decided to make the surgery before the Asia Cup. But he changed his decision when he talked with BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon in Madina while performing Hajj. BCB included him in the Bangladesh squad for Asia Cup later. The all-rounder went to United States for spending holiday with his wife and daughter after Hajj.
Asia Cup is ready to kick off after few days. But Shakib Al hasan is not with the team and away from practice. Recently, Shakib expressed his opinion regarding his latest situation during an interview. He is worried about his fitness as he is having pain in his finger. He said
I would say I’m 20 to 30 percent fit now. Still pain in my hand, Truly speaking I do not know how would I bat or bowl! I am even out of practice so no idea.
Recently Bangladesh won both ODI and T20I series against Windies. This year’s Asia Cup is a 50-over format so Bangladesh need to perform in the tournament as the team is quite balance in ODI format. Shakib is quite hopeful about the Asia Cup. He said-
“We should do well. I believe we have a balance ODI team. We need to be confident. Most players are in form. let’s see what happen.”
