Hussaini Dalan blast case verdict, 2 sentenced, acquitted 8

The Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal of Dhaka yesterday sentenced two accused to different prison terms and acquitted six others in the case filed for bomb blast at Hossaini Dalan during the preparation of Tazia procession ahead of the holy Ashura in 2015.
Judge Mojibur Rahman of the special tribunal passed the order on Tuesday.
The tribunal sentenced Arman alias Monir to 10 years in prison and Kabir Hossen alias Rashed alias Ashif to 7 years in the prison.
The acquitted accused people are Omor Faruk Manik, Hafez Ahsan Ullah Mahmud, Shahjalal Mia, Chan Mia, Abu Sayeed Rasel alias Solaiman alias Salman alias Saymon and Rubel Islam alias Sajeeb alias Sumon.
During the pronouncement of the verdict, the court made observations that the prosecution could not prove the allegations against the accused people.
According to the case dossier, on October 23, 2015, two persons, including a 15 year-old schoolboy name Sazu, were killed and about 100 more were injured, when five members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) launched a terrible grenade attack at Hossaini Dalan premises.
On the occasion, the Shia Muslims had been gathering near the building to bring out a Tazia procession marking the holy Ashura of the next day. Ashuria marks the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). The Shiites particularly observe the day.  
The next day, Jalal Uddin, a Sub-Inspector of Chawkbazar Police Station, filed a case against some unidentified people under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
In October 18, 2016, DB Inspector (South) Md Shafiuddin Sheikh, submitted the charge sheet to the court accusing 10 alleged militants.
On May 31, 2017, a court framed charges against the 10 accused, members of the JMB. The trial was stuck due to some mistakes of the Investigation Officer (IO). He submitted charge sheet against two children with the adult accused.
Later, on May 14, 2018, the case was transferred to the Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal of Dhaka.
Of the 46 witnesses, 23 testified in the case.
Of the 10 accused, Kabir Hossain, Zahid Hasan, Rubel Islam, Abu Sayeed, Arman and Masud Rana were behind the bar while Hafez Ahsan Ullah Masud, Shah Zalal, Omar Faruk Manik and Chan Mia were freed on bail.
