Demanding extortion: Husband, two sons of Phulbari UZ vice chairman sued

Husband and two sons of the newly- elected BNP- backed female upazila Vice Chairman of Phulbari upazila Parishad have been sued for demanding extortion and vandalizing an under construction drain in the upazila on Tuesday, police said.
The accused persons were identified as Soyeb Ali, 47, and his two sons Rezaul Islam 20 and Md. Sumon 18, husband and sons of Most. Hachina Pervin, newly elected BNP backed vice chairman of Phulbari upazila Parishad under Dinajpur district.
Md. Ilias Uddin Sarker, a member (Ward 9) of Daulatpur UP under Phulbari upazila filed the extortion case on Tuesday evening with Phulbari police station.
In the case, the member mentioned that he was monitoring the construction work of a drain at Maddhyampara area on Tuesday afternoon. At a moment, the husband and two sons of Hachina Pervin appeared there and demanded Tk.10,000 as extortion.
As the member declined to pay the extortion, they started damaging the under construction drain. The member in the case mentioned that around 20 feets drain was damaged.
Later, he filed an extortion case with Phulbari police station on Tuesday evening accusing the trio.
When contacted with Md. Abdul Aziz Master Chairman of Daulatpur UP confirmed the incident saying that since the Hachina Pervin elected as female vice chairman her husband and sons started bad practice in the area including extortion.
 Hachina Parvin, female vice chairman of Phulbari upazila Parishad said that the construction of the drain was going on with substandard materials which was protested by her husband and sons. ‘It was conspiracy against her’ she claimed.
Rabiul Islam Khan Officer in-charge (OC) of Phulbari police station confirmed it saying the accused person yet to be arrested as they went hiding soon after the case was filed.
