A court in a verdict here yesterday awarded a man death penalty for killing his wife eight years ago at village east- Nonderchoti under Durgapur upazila of Netrakona district.
Additional district and session Judge Netrakona Mohammad Abdul Hamid pronounced the verdict as his crowded court room saying that the convicted person identified as Abdus Salam,40, of village Dubrajpur under the Durgapur upazila will be hanged on the gallows until his death as the murder charge brought against him was proved by the prosecution under section 302 of BPC in beyond benefit of doubts.
According to the court sources , the prosecution story, in brief, is that Abdus Salam locked in a family feud with his wife namely Shilpi Akter, 36, centering the issue of making flour- cakes on the day of October 10, 2007. During the clash, Salam hit Shilpi with a Ramdao indiscriminately leaving her critically injured at his bedroom.
