In a shocking incident, a man strangulated his wife and nine-month-old son to death at Lakkhyarchar in Bandar upazila on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Afsana, 28, wife of Yajul, and their baby boy Afzal of the area.
Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bandar Police Station, said Yajul had been living in a rented house in the area along with his family.
As neighbours did not get any response from the house inmates even after repeated knocks in the morning, they informed police of it. Police stormed the house breaking open the door in the afternoon only to see Afsana and Afzal lying dead in their room. Later, the bodies were sent to Narayanganj 100-bedded hospital for autopsy.
Police said, Yajul might have strangled his wife and son as there were marks of strangulation on the necks of the victims. Meanwhile, Yajul went into hiding after the incident.
