At least six bodies, including two women and a baby, were recovered from the city’s Jatrabari, Fakirapul, Uttara, Malibagh and Khilgaon areas on Sunday, police said.
Quoting the victim’s elder baby and locals, Jatrabari Police Station’s Sub-Inspector Mohammad Shah Alam said that Sazzadul Islam Bhuiyan alias Russel allegedly killed his wife Shurovi Akhter, 26, in front of their two children at his residence at 329/A, Pubail of Jatrabari around 8:00am.
The police official said that Shurovi might have been killed by Russel following an altercation between them at night over family matter. At one stage, Russel hit Shurovi with a hammer, leaving her dead on the spot.
He added the couple have two children — Orim, 4, and 15 days old girl Norin. Russel is director of Akaba Timber Industries Limited.
Being informed by local people, Jatrbari thana police recovered the body of Shurovi from her residence in the morning and sent it to Mitford Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Later, Russel surrendered to police around 3:45pm and gave confessional statement to police over his involvement in the murder, the police official said.
In another incident, police recovered a hanging body from a six-storied building in the Garampanir Gali at Fakirapul in the afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Shabina Akhter, 20, daughter of Abdur Rauf, an inhabitant of the area.
The body has been sent to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy.
Police also recovered a body from under a flyover near Raj Lakkhi Shopping Mall in Uttara in the early morning. The deceased has been identified as Hazrazt Ali, 57, hailing from Bhuapur upazila under Tangail district. The body has been sent to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy. On the other hand, police recovered a hanging body from Malibagh Chowdhury Para in the early morning. The deceased has been identified as Shah Alam, 27, son of Moudud Hossain, who hailed from Pirojpur district.

In another incident, a baby died after he fell from a seven-storied building at Khilgaon in the afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Riaz Uddin, 8, son of Mohammad Salmat, an inhabitant of the area.
The body has been sent to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy. In the last incident, police recovered a hanging body of a maid servant from a house at Khilgaon. The deceased has been identified as Zakia Sultana, 18, who hailed from Ghosairhat upazila of Shatiatpur district. Zakia Sultana has been working in the house for three years with the couple of Shahin and Farhana.
