Police have arrested a man from a hospital in Barisal city on charge of killing his wife in Jhalakathi district on Sunday evening.
The law enforcers arrested the ‘killer’ after releasing from Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH) on Monday.
The arrested killer has been identified as Mainul Islam Akan alias Himu, 25, inhabitant of Kathpatti in Jhalakathi district town.
Earlier, a housewife was allegedly suffocated to death by her husband centering family dispute in their residence in Jhalakathi Sadar upazila on Sunday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Suraya Yasmin, 24, wife of Mainul Islam Akan alias Himu, 25, inhabitant of Kathpatti of the district town.
She was a second year student of Bachelor of Arts (BA) of Jhalakathi Government Women College.
The other accused are Milton Akan, 50, father-in-law of Suraiya, her mother-in-law Ayesha Begum, 42, Md Mahfuj, 38, a manger of fry rice mill factory of Himu, Police said.
Quoting locals, Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC)Md Tajul Islam said, “Suraiya and Himu got married without the support of the both families around two years ago. Following the marriage, quarrel was one kind of regular phenomena in the family. In the latest, Himu stabbed Suraiya with stick abruptly on Sunday afternoon. At one stage, Himu suffocated his wife to death in the afternoon.”
After murder, Himu staged a drama of suicide by taking poison centering disagreement with their family and informed to deceased’ maternal uncle and spread that he also took poison with Suraiya, the police official said.
Based on information, the relatives of Suraiya took her Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared her dead in the evening. They also referred Himu to the SBMCH for better treatment, according to the OC.
