A Netrokona court has sentenced a person to life in prison for killing his wife’s lover around 10 years ago.
Additional Session Judge Mohammad Abdul Hamid pronounced the verdict on Monday against Kamal Fakir, 35, of Atpara.
Kamal was also fined Tk 20,000. He will have to serve additional two-year jail term if he fails to pay the fine.
Three other accused in the case were acquitted, government lawyer Kamalesh Kumar Chowdhury said.
According to the case detail, Kamal’s wife ‘Shefali’ had developed extramarital relationship with ‘Habil’, 24. The youth was also a resident of the same Moholhatta village.
When Habil had entered Shefali’s room on the night of Mar 22, 2005, Kamal hacked him to death with a machete.
Habil’s brother ‘Rabil’ had filed a case on the following day accusing four, including Kamal for the murder.
Police had submitted chargesheet on Jun 10 the same year.
