Tarash Correspondent :

Indiscriminate killing of different species of birds is going on in Sirajganj.
The administration is playing a silent role even though professional and amateur hunters hunt a large number of birds every day and sell them in various markets.
Meanwhile, it is said that different species of birds are coming to the bottom of the beel and crop lands in search of food. And taking advantage of this opportunity, a class of dishonest people are hunting an average of 100 to 200 different species of birds every day with different techniques. It is learned that water is flowing from the beel of Tarash upazila inhabited by Chalanbil of the district.
During the months of Ashwin, Kartik and Agrayan of the year, different species of birds including Dahuk, Kora, Ghughu, Bak Ratchara, Pankair, Trisul, Balihans are seen in Chalanbil. And at this time a large number of birds went down to collect food in the beel as there was a lot of food.
On this occasion, the hunters are hunting all those birds indiscriminately in different places of the upazila to get nets, fishing nets and fishing nets. At present, these hunters are hunting more birds in Talam and Desigram Unions of the upazila.
In addition, in all the places where the birds go down for food, the professional hunters go down to the beel at 7 in the morning or at night with the bird hunting equipment. They are catching birds with their tricks and filling the cages. Again, many amateur hunters are openly catching birds with air songs during the day and at noon.
Sabbir Ahmed, leader of Talam Union Chhatra League, said, “Birds are hunting in various crop fields of Talam Union.” Again, these birds are being bought and sold openly by ferry to Gulta market. Different birds including 100 to 150 bucks are being hunted every day. Each pair of birds of prey is also being sold at Rs.
I am seeking the intervention of the administration to stop bird hunting. In this regard, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tarash Police Station Fazle Asik said that it is a criminal offense to hunt any kind of bird. It was not known that the birds were being hunted. However, legal action will be taken against bird hunters in my area.
