Hunt for suspected killers of Avijit FBI extends tech help

Staff Reporter :State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that the police have been conducting a massive search operation for the assailants of Avijit Roy after making a list of suspects based on solid evidence. “It’s a pre- planned murder. More than one assailant had taken part in the killing of writer and blogger Avijit Roy. Police already have made a list of suspected killers and started a massive hunt to nab the real culprits,” he said while speaking at `Meet the Reporters` programme at Dhaka Reporters Unity [DRU] in the city on Saturday. “Police already have arrested two key suspects including another blogger Farabi. According to their information police are searching for the suspects and they will be arrested soon,” Khan said.Answering to a question about the visit of Federal Bureau of Investigation [FBI], he also said: “The FBI team arrived in Dhaka with the permission of Foreign Affairs Ministry as he [Avijit] was a US citizen. Their investigation will help us and make our works easier. It doesn’t mean that our intelligence agencies have failed…. They are quite capable. Our intelligence agencies also went to other countries for such type of operations.”When asked if there was any negligence of police, the state minister said: “Around seven police officials, including a joint commissioner, are involved in the investigation. If there is any negligence, it will be proved after investigation.”  Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police [DMP] Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia has said that visiting FBI team is providing technical assistance to Bangladesh Police over Avijit killing.Welcoming the FBI initiative, the DMP commissioner said, “We have some lacking in technical side. For that reason, they [FBI] are providing us [Bangladesh Police] technical support in investigating the murder case”.On the development of the investigation, he commented, “We have made a commendable progress over the incident. We have already detained the person who gave him murder threat through Facebook. The law enforcers are trying to identify the criminals”.
