UNB, Narayanganj :
As family members of the seven-murder victims pushed for the arrest of prime suspect Nur Hossain alive for unmasking all those involved in the heinous incident, huge weapons and drugs were recovered from a truck stand controlled by Nur on Friday.
The demand came when a delegation of BNP-backed Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad (SPP), a professional body, met the family members of some of the victims.
The SPP delegation, led by its acting convener and journalist leader Ruhul Amin Gazi, first went to the house of slain lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker at Jalkuri Brishtidhara in Siddhirganj around 11am. They talked to Chandan’s daughter Dr Susmita Sarker and her husband Dr Bijoy Kumar Paul.
Later, they visited the house of Shahid Chairman, father-in-law of slain city panel mayor Nazrul Islam, at Mijimiji where Nazrul’s wife and children were staying.
The family members demanded immediate arrest of the accused, including Nur Hossain.
They said if the main accused is not arrested alive, those involved in the seven-murder might not be exposed.
The family members, however, expressed their satisfaction over the transfer of a good number of policemen of the district, teetering on abduction spree.
The SPP team also met the family members of Toki and finally exchanged views with local journalists at the Narayanganj Press Club. The other delegation members include SPP member secretary Dr AZM Zahid Hossain and noted filmmaker Chasi Nazrul Islam. The SPP leaders also announced to continue the movement until exemplary punishment is meted out to the perpetrators of the sensational seven murders.
Meanwhile, police recovered huge weapons and drugs during a raid on a truck stand controlled by Nur Hossain at Shimrail in Siddhirganj in the afternoon.
A district police team, led by police super Dr Khandaker Muhid Uddin, conducted the raid on the truck stand around 4:15pm. During the one-and-half-an-hour drive, the law enforcers recovered over 22 daggers, three machetes, 2,824 bottles of Phensidyl syrup, huge Yaba tablets and nine bottles of foreign liquor. However, no one was arrested during the drive.
Local said Narayanganj City Corporation councillor Nur Hossain is also the vice-president of Siddhirganj thana unit of Awami League, and president of thana chapter of inter-district truck drivers union.
He used to control the drug trading in the area from the truck stand. On April 27, Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver, were abducted by miscreants from Fatullah area of the city. Hours after their abduction, senior lawyer at district Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also abducted on their way to capital Dhaka.
Bodies of seven people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan Kumar, were recovered from the Shitalakkhya and Dhaleshwari rivers on April 30 and May 1.
