BSS, Dhaka :
Human Rights Day will be observed in the country like elsewhere in the world marking the 71th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10 in 1948.
Different organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate
messages on the eve of the day and wished success of all the programmes.
In his message, President Abdul Hamid said the Constitution of Bangladesh ensures all internationally recognised human rights.
The government constituted the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in 2009 aiming at protecting the rights of all and ensuring the human rights at all levels, he said, adding that as an independent and neutral body, the NHRC is playing an active role in protecting human rights.
Bangladesh has earned appreciation in international arena in protecting human rights by providing shelter to a huge number of forcefully displaced Rohingya people from Myanmar on humanitarian grounds, Abdul Hamid said.
