Human chain in Gafargaon demanding release of arrested peon

Thousands of people from Barihati and Rouha villages staged a human chain and sit-in programme at the school grounds on Tuesday afternoon demanding reinstatement and release of Rakib Khan, a sacked clerk of Barihati Government Primary School at Gafargaon under Mymensingh. At the same time, Bangladesh Government Primary School Employees Welfare Association organized an hour-long human chain and protest program in front of the school.
During the protest rally, the headmaster (acting) Nilufa Khanam and peon Rakib’s uncle Abdul Hai, a war-wounded freedom fighter, said, “Our family dispute victim was arrested in a false case. He demanded that Rakib be released from the case and reinstated in the job.
Expressing solidarity at the rally, Selina Akhter, a woman member of the local union council, said peon dismissed and arrested Rakib in an unfortunate incident between the two families. She termed the incident as false and demanded Rakib’s release and proper investigation.
On the other hand, Central President Abul Kalam, General Secretary Khalilur Rahman and Harish Khan spoke on behalf of the district committee.
Nilufa Khanam, the headmaster of Barihati Government Primary School in Gafargaon, alleged that she was beaten around 2pm on Thursday (May 26). In this incident, Peon Rakib was arrested and dismissed from his job.
