CU Correspondent :
Students of Chittagong University formed a human chain supporting Prof ABM Faroque, who recently conducted two tests on milk samples of various companies.
Students of different faculties and institutions gathered under the banner of ‘general students’ in front of the central Shahid Miner of CU around 11am on Tuesday.
Addressing at the human chain ,students asked the concerned authorities to expel the government bureaucrats who made the derogatory remarks about Faroque’s research, threatening a hard-line approach otherwise.
On June 25, a group of DU researchers led by Prof Faroque said they detected detergent and three types of antibiotics in packaged milk with testing seven samples of five, widely-sold, pasteurized milk brands, and three samples of unpasteurized milk. The same researchers on Saturday announced they found traces of four antibiotics in ten samples after conducting their second round of tests.
The study, conducted by a group of teachers of the Pharmacy Department of Dhaka University, also found edible oils, powdered spices, fruit juices, and ghee of several popular brands, below BSTI standards of quality.
