Boalkhali -Khalugurghat Bridge Implementation Parishad has formed a human chain in front of Boalkhali Press Club premises recently demanding implementation of the bridge project immediately.
The dwellers of Boalkhali upazila irrespective of caste and creed formed huge human chain demanding immediate implementation of proposed new Kalurghat bridge at Boalkhali point as the Prime Minister okayed the Kalurghat bridge project in the cabinet meeting recently.
Mentionable that cabinet ministry recently approved the bridge project with dual line viz. road and rail track. It is learnt Prime Minister approved the project on August 9 , 2015 which was informed to Deputy commissioner, Chittagong on August 12 .
Under the banner of Boalkhali Kalurghat Bridge Implementation Parishad at first formed human chain in 2014 in fornt of Boalkhali Press Club and later a number of memorandums were sent to PM’s office over the matter.
Sources said the present Kalurghat Bridge was built in 1930 which is turning vulnerable day by day .
In 1997, Railway authority declares the existing KB as a risky transpiration and excess loading beyond 10 tons prohibited by railway, sources said.
