Human chain at CU demands justice for Nusrat

Students of Chittagong University (CU) yesterday formed a human chain under the banner Protom Alo Bondhushava and demanded justice for Nusrat Jahan, who died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday.
Around 500 students took part at the human chain held around 11:00am also demanded capital punishment against culprits responsible for setting fire to Nusrat Jahan of Sonagazi Upazila in Feni.
The speakers of the human chain urged concerned authorities to ensure exemplary punishment of the culprits involved with the incident.
Earlier on Saturday, Nusrat was set on fire for refusing to withdraw a case filed against, Maulana Siraj Ud Doula, principal of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa, for sexually harassing her last month.
The student was battling for her life at the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and finally succumbed to her injuries yesterday .
According to her family, four burqa-clad students called her to the institute’s roof and asked her to withdraw the case that her family had filed against the principal, for allegedly trying to rape her.
The unidentified students poured kerosene on her and set her on fire after she refused. Other students rescued her upon hearing her screams and took her to Sonagazi Upazila Health complex with the help of police. From there, she was moved to Feni General Hospital, and later transferred to DMCH.
Later on Wednesday night, Nusrat died at DMCH.
