A big reserve of quality Uranium has been traced in Moulvibazar district of Sylhet region, which will help Bangladesh earn huge amount of money by exporting the precious metal, experts said.
Dr AKM Fazle Kibria, Scientific Officer of BAEC, has disclosed this at a seminar on “Uranium Searching and Quantification: An attempt and Success”, arranged by the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) in its Agargaon office on Wednesday.
The sample of the precious metal of Uranium has already been sent to Japan and South Korea for investigation, Fazle Kibria said.
It is a good news that uranium in some stones have density over 500 PPM. It signals the presence of higher quality of uranium in Bangladesh, he said.
This is first time that density of uranium has been marked with the names of its location and GPS record in Bangladesh.
“Though we know that Bangladesh has uranium, we do not know how much and where it is located”, said Dr Fazle Kibria.
According to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the explore able density of uranium is 300- 1000 PPM.
It is good for us that the density of uranium is quite fine for exploring. It is the right time that the government should come forward for commercial exploration of uranium, he said.
Director (Planning and Development) of BAEC Dr. Dilip Kumar Saha, Directors Dr. Aleya Begum, Engineer Anisa Begum, Dr Md. Khurshed Alam, Dr. Himangshu Engineer Zafar Sadek, Dr Yunus Akonda, among other, addressed the seminar.
Over 100 scientists, who were working on radiation and uranium, participated in the function. It may be said that Uranium is used to make nuclear bomb.
