Huge smuggled forex seized at HSIA: 2 held

Customs Intelligence seized huge amount of smuggled foreign currencies worth around Tk 38.60 lakh from the city’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Saturday. They also arrested two persons in this connection.
The arrested persons have been identified as Bodiuzzaman Laskar, 38, inhabitant of Gopalganj, and Ziaul Haque, 30, hailing from Comilla.
Bodiuzzaman and Ziaul were passengers of a Malaysia-bound aircrafts, customs officials said.
Assistant Director of Department of Customs Intelligence and Investigation said that a team of customs
department conducted a drive around 12:30am when the arrested persons were trying to smuggle the foreign currencies to Malaysia.
She said that police detained Bodiuzzaman and found 21, 300 Euro, 24, 500 Qatari Riyal, 192 Malaysian Ringgit, and Taka 600 Bangladeshi in his possession.
The customs official said that Ziaul had been arrested along with 62, 500 Saudi Riyal, 321 Malaysian Ringgit and BD Tk 2,316.
