Thousands of people were vaccinated on the second day of the nationwide mass vaccination campaign on Sunday.
There was found huge response to the measure and the people were looking happy for getting chance to avoid hardship of online registration.
Most of the vaccine seekers said, while standing in long queues they failed repeatedly to have registration for a jab through online. “I and almost all of my family members were tired of online registration for vaccination many times in the past. At the finishing stage, the OTP number was given one after another, but no registration was completed,” said Shahina Ahmed, a resident of Gandaria, seeking vaccine in a queue at Ward-46 councilor’s office on Sunday.
Similarly, other people in different areas in the capital, who were in queues, said the mass vaccination campaign have made their efforts easier. The elderly aged people from several centers said if the government did not arrange such a easy process, most of them would not have been eager to be inoculated for the hardship of the online registration process.
The data of the Directorate General of Health Services showed on Sunday that a total of 27,83,172 people has been administered first dose of the covid jabs on the first day of the mass vaccination campaign on Saturday.
About 53,798 shots of 2nd dose of vaccines were inoculated on the day.
Public Health Experts also welcomed the government’s initiative as a good and effective measure against the deadly coronavirus which crippled the world for almost two years.
When contacted, Professor Dr. M. Muzaherul Huq, former Advisor of the World Health Organisation told The New Nation,”After failures in lockdown as well as failure in achieving its goal of wide range vaccination so far, the government deserves congratulation for its decision of mass vaccination right now.”
He said, mass vaccination must achieve the goal of containing the corona transmission.
The professor said, “Though the first day went well, but it is observed that health rules were not properly maintained.”
“Ignoring health rules might have spread transmission during vaccination campaign. Wearing face mask and maintenance of distance must be maintained to avoid contamination,” he said.
The expert said, “While our last measure is vaccination, we must ensure that health measures are properly maintained in centres in the mass vaccination campaign.”
The government introduced the mass vaccination on Saturday with a target to inoculate at least 3.2 million people against the Covid-19 across the country.
The vaccines are being administered in 4,600 unions, 1,054 municipalities and 433 wards of city corporations across the country.
The countrywide mass vaccination campaign is set to run for the next five days. The minimum age to receive a shot has been set at 25, and national identity cards (NIDs) are mandatory.
