Customs Intelligence Department in a drive seized foreign currencies worth about Tk 7.19 lakh from the Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday night.
They have also arrested a man in this connection. The recovered currencies included 27,000 Saudi riyals, 1600 Euros and 11 US dollars.
The arrested man has been identified as Emdadul Haque Mollah, 35.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department’s Assistant Director Umme Nahida said that a team of customs officials challenged Emdadul in front of arrival gate No. 2 as he was moving
suspiciously. They found the cigarettes and foreign currencies after searching in his body.
She said that Emdadul confessed that he was a member of international smuggling gang.
A case has been filed with the Airport Police Station, the customs official said.
