Customs Intelligence and Investigation officials detained two containers at Chittagong port for alleged involvement of false declaration of consignment. Sources said an importer of Dhaka named Puspo Electronic imported electronics items from Hongkong with false declaration of accessories worth about Tk. 2 crores.
Acting on secret tip-off, CIID detained the container at port shed and after physical inventory, 29 tons electronic goods recovered from the containers beyond their declarations in the bill of entry, sources said. Sources said the importer tried to evade government tax about Tk.64 lakh with false declaration.
C&F agent Raiyan Trading submitted the Bill of entry on behalf of the importer to customs. CIID sources said the importer declared import of 36 tons of accessories but on physical inventory 29 tons undeclared electronic goods including MV bearing, mini fans etc.
Were recovered . Reliable customs sources said the C&F agent tried to take delivery of the consignment after paying only Tk.12 lakh as duty and taxes aimed at evading Tk 60 lakh government duty. The importer also fined Tk.17 lakh for providing false declaration in the bill of entry.
Sources said, penalty, government duty and taxes as per tariff of the consignment will be realised from the importer accordingly.
