Drive against polythene: Huge banned polythene recovered, businessmen fined in Barisal

Barisal office of Environment Directorate operating a drive at Bazaar Road area of the city on Tuesday recovered about two-metric tons banned polythene.
After that a mobile court fined four polythene whole-selling traders total Tk 93,000.
Mahmuda Sultana, Mahmuda Aktar, Administrative Magistrates and Sukumar Biswas, Director along with Amirul Islam Khan, Assistant Director (technical), AHM Rashed, Assistant Director (administration) , Abdul Malek Mia (senior technician) of DoE Barisal office, raided Razzak Complex at Bazaar Road area of the city on Tuesday noon.
On basis of the tip-offs they breaking the locks of the godowns found huge stocks of different kinds of banned polythene bags and packing materials.
The administrative magistrates forming a mobile court fined godown owner four whole-sellers of polythene trading total Tk. 93,000 as Ram Saha (Tk 50,000), Sajal Saha (Tk 20,000), Asim Saha (Tk.3,000) and Kanchan Mia (Tk.20,000).
During the drive the DoE also operating campaign stuck stickers, exchanging views and conducted advocacy in the area tried to convince the traders and user against using, selling, stocking polythene bags and packets, said director DoE Barisal office.
