M M Jasim :About twelve lakh examinees of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations of 2015 session are in pressure as they could not take smooth preparations due to the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s hartal and blockade. The examination is scheduled to begin on April 1. The students now fear that the incomplete preparation may affect badly in their HSC results. Meanwhile, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has said that the government would not reschedule the HSC examinations due to the blockade and shutdown.”We have published the routine and the exams will be held accordingly, without any change. We asked the examinees not to feel worried and plan accordingly. Speaking to The New Nation, teachers of different colleges said that the months preceding the exams are very important for the examinees. It plays a very essential role to build up the confidence level and skill of the students for appearing in the examinations. But the students’ final preparations like model test and special coaching classes which were conducted by the respective teachers were hampered due to the political unrest. Motijheel Ideal School and College Principal Dr. Shahanara Begum said the months preceding the examinations were vital for students, which they use for revision and correction. She said that the teachers of the colleges could not take classes during the hartal and blockade in last two and a half months. Some colleges took classes at weekends. The students need special care before the examinations. But they were deprived of it due to the violent political programme and arson attacks, she said. It is to be noted that the police recovered at least 10 crude bombs from Mirpur Bangla High School and College and Monipur High School and College, on March 1.Several crude bombs were also found near the entrance to SFX Greenherald International School at Mohammadpur on the same day. On February 27, miscreants threatened to blow up Lakshmipur Girls High School in Rajshahi for keeping the institution open on hartal days.Dr. Shahanara Begum said that she was concerned about how to maintain the academic calendar. That is why the academic activities were hampered and it reflected to this year’s HSC examinees. Tanzila Tanzu, a student of Mohammadpur Preparatory Higher Secondary School, told this reporter that she got GPA-5 ‘A+’ in secondary level. But she is in fear about her HSC examinations as she could not take preparations like the SSC. “I have attended all the classes of HSC level. I have got good number in class tests. HSC syllabus is more different than the SSC. We need extra preparations and take care to take part the examinations. But now I am in fear that my teachers could not hold model test and special coaching due to hartal,” she said. Abdur Razzak, guardian of a student of Viquarunnisa Noon School and College, said, “My daughter’s final preparations for the HSC examinations are not good. The college teachers told the students that the situation would be normal soon and cancelled some model tests and coaching. Now the teachers have started it again. But students cannot take extra pressure now. ” Meanwhile, the education minister urged all political parties not to call any programme during the exams that threaten what he said students’ academic life.
