Police arrested three persons on Wednesday night at Sherpur town alleging their involvement in the leakage of question paper of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations that began on Thursday at 2,352 centres under eight general education boards, one Madrasa and one Technical Education on Thursday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Anisur Rahman, 30, Asaduzzaman, 20, and Kalyan Kumar Ray, 21.
However, when asked about the question paper leakage, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said, “No such incident took place. Leakage of question papers is a rumour.”
In total, 1,141,374 students, 606,293 boys and 5,35,081 girls from 8,104 pschools are taking part in the examination this year. On the first day, Bangla 1st Paper was held.
The number of students this year rose by 128,793. Last year, 1,012,581 students sat for the examination.
The examinations in the theoretical subjects will end on June 5, while the practical examinations will be held between June 7 and 16.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid told a media conference on Wednesday that 924,171 students are taking part in the exams under the eight general education boards, 107,557 under the Madrasha Education Board, 104,669 under Technical Education Board and 4,977 will appear for the DIBS (Diploma in Business Studies).
Besides, examinations are being held at five overseas centers in Doha, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah, Riyadh and Tripoli, where 202 students (91 boys and 111 girls) will appear.
This year, examinations in 25 subjects will be held under the creative method – a system introduced in 2012.
In 2013, examinations in seven subjects, including Bangla 1st Paper, followed this method.
Students with disabilities would be given 20 minutes more to write their answers with the help of scribes.
While visiting the Motijheel Ideal School and College examination center, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid told the reporters that the results would be published within 60 days of the examinations.
He also said that the examinations are being held in a peaceful environment.
He also urged the political parties not to give any major programme during the examinations.
Meanwhile, the police arrested three people from different areas in the Sherpur town on Wednesday night for their alleged involvement in leak of question paper of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations held on Thursday.
Shahjahan, assistant superintendent of police, said on secret information, a team of police conducted a drive in College More, DC Gate and bus terminal area of the district town at about 10:30 pm and arrested the trio.
Police also recovered photocopy machines and eight copies of the question paper of Bangla first paper HSC examination from their possession. A case was filed in this connection.
