Setu Rani Karmakar (24), wife of one Bappi Karmakar of village Gazalia under Kachua Upazila in Bagerhat district was allegedly strangulated to death by her husbands at Tuesday night, according to a delayed report received here. In the following morning the dead body of Setu Rani was brought to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital by Joy Karmakar, brother of Bappi Karmakar and fled away leaving the dead body there. Setu Rani left behind a 2 years old daughter to mourn her death
It is learnt from her (Setu) brother Sabuj Karmakar and maternal Uncle Mihir Kanti Haldar that Setu Rani, daughter of one Sujan Karmakar of village Gazaria under Mathbaria Upazila in Pirojpur district was given married to Bappi Karmakar 3 years ago. It is alleged that after their marriage Bappi Karmakar very often used to torture her both physically and mentally in order to realize money as dowry from her parents. Brother of Setu told, an amount of cash Taka was already given to Bappi, but in spite of that we could not save the life of my sister.
Fazlul Kabir, SI of Bagerhat Model PS told, in this connection an UD case was lodged with the PS. He added, if it is found in the postmortem report that it is a case of homicide the UD case will be turned into a regular case.
