A young housewife was killed as her modesty scarf twisted with the wheels of a battery run auto rickshaw on which she boarded as a passenger at Kundupukur Chowdhury Para village of Sadar upazila on Monday.
The victim is identified as Sumona Akhtar (20) wife of one Selim Hossain also mother of a child of Sutipara village of the same upazila.
Eyewitness and police informed that Sumona was returning home with others from a relatives house at neighbouring Darwani village riding on a hired auto rickshaw on that night at about 9.00 p.m after attending a wedding ceremony.
While they were coming through Darwani-Sutipara local road and reached at KundupukurCchowdhury Para village, Sumona’s modesty suddenly scarf twisted with the wheels of the vehicle holding her throat tightly as she was dizzling then out of tiredness and hence couldn’t keep herself alert.
Other relatives accompanying the victim made frantic effort to loose the tight scurf but failed and at one stage, she died of suffocation.
Locals immediately rushed to the spot and took the victim to 100-bed hospital in Nilphamari but the doctors declared that she had already died some time before.
Sub inspector of sador police station, Prodip Banerjee informed that police recovered the dead body and later handed over it to her family members as none lodged any complain. An unnatural death case was filed with sador police station yesterday.
