A housewife was burnt to death and six others received burn injuries in two separate incidents of fire on Tuesday. Firefighters said a housewife was burnt to death and her daughter received burn injuries as a fire broke out at their house located in North Joldi area under Banskhali upazila of the district in the early hours of Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Hamida Akter, 30, wife of expatriate Toyob Ullah, and their daughter Tanjina Sultana, 11, a fifth grader student of a local madrasa. Officials of Agrabad Fire Service control room said the fire broke out at the house of Toyob Ullah around 3:30 am originating from an electric short circuit and soon engulfed the adjoining two other dwellings.
On information, two fire fighting units brought the fire under control after two hours’ frantic efforts. Later, firefighters with the help of locals recovered the roasted body of Hamida at about 6 am, said Rashed Khan Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Banskhali police station.
