A maid servant looted gold ornaments, cell phone sets and cash money from house No. 21 on the Joynag Road in the city’s Chawkbazar area on Monday night. The amount of losses could not be ascertained instantly.
To achieve the ill motives, she first served sedative mixed food to the family members to make them senseless. When nine members of the family fell sick, she fled with the looted booties, police said.
The victims have been identified as
Anwara Begum, 50, Halim, 50, Mannan, 40, Panni, 35, Shahnaj, 35, Asma, 30, Hamim 15, Yasin, 12, and Salma, 9. They are now undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), police said.
Quoting the two other family members, Chawkbazar Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azizul Islam said that family members took sedative mixed food served to them in the dinner by their domestic help, who was appointed just three days ago.
When the inmates became lifeless, the maid fled the house with the booty of gold ornaments, cell phone sets and cash money. The police official said that the maidservant used three fake names viz. Tagor, Yasmin and Bilkis in order to hide her actual identity and address.
The maidservant might be a member of a professional miscreants gang of the city, the OC said. Police are investigating the matter.
