bdnews24.com :Six policemen are guarding police super Babul Aktar – who is currently living in his wife’s house ever since her murder on June 5 — round the clock.Babul, a Superintendent of police, had led Chittagong police’s offensive against terrorists. His father-in-law, Mosharraf Hussain, is intrigued by the presence of policemen at the house. He says, he is not sure if their posting is meant for Babul’s protection or intended to keep an eye on him.To make matters murkier, police sent for Babul on Friday midnight and whisked him away for questioning to the Detective Branch office. When his phone was found switched off till Saturday afternoon, his in-laws and relatives began to worry. He came back later that day and said he had been taken as part of a routine investigation to help in his wife’s murder case. But, Mosharraf, a former cop himself, has found Babul to be morose and silent ever since he returned from his visit to the Detective Branch office, making no effort to venture outside and remaining confined to his room.Growing interest in the case prompted Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Dhaka police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia to say that Babul’s quizzing by the police was a routine part of the investigation. The Chittagong police commissioner said Babul’s questioning could not be termed interrogation. With mystery shrouding the case, Home Minister Kamal told the media that the two suspects nabbed in connection with the murder were professional criminals, and Babul had been called to verify.Babul’s wife’s murder was initially seen as a terrorist act in retaliation for Babul’s counter-terrorist operations. However, police seem to have altered their position and now maintain that the suspects held are professional criminals. The needle of suspicion, it seems, is beginning to veer in Babul’s direction for now, feel those following the developments in the case. But Mosharraf dismisses the notion that Babul could have a hand in the killing of his daughter. Demanding justice for her, he said he wanted everyone to let the investigation take its own course.
