Houses with 70 plots of land under the Asrayan-2 project (Phase II) are waiting to be handed over to the homeless and landless to provide shelter to the ‘homeless’ families at Gafargaon under Mymensingh.
It is learned that on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, after handing over 200 houses in the upazila in the first phase, another 70 houses will be handed over to homeless and landless families in the second phase.
About seventy percent of the house construction work has progressed. The upazila administration expects the rest of the work to be completed in the next two weeks. The construction of each house has cost about 1 lakh 90 thousand rupees.
On June 20 Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina provides free land and houses to 53,340 landless and homeless families in the second phase of virtual countrywide.
Locally, MP Fahmi Golandaj Babel is scheduled to hand over houses among 70 beneficiary families of Gafargaon Upazila on behalf of the Prime Minister.
31 houses are being constructed in Dutterbazar, 12 in Mashakhali, 18 in Pithal, 02 in Panchbagh, 6 in Longair Union and 01 in Usthi Union.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Tajul Islam said the construction committee is working under the direction of MP Fahmi Golandaj Babel.
