Demonstrating students of the Home Economics College on Monday placing a number of demands including the one for declaring the college as a Dhaka University institution.
A group of students took to the streets in front of their college at New Market Intersection around 11am and demonstrated blocking the road, said Salahuddin, assistant commissioner (Lalbagh zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Vehicular movement on the road came to a complete halt due to the blockade.
Later, the traffic on the road returned to normalcy around 1.30pm.
Sharmin Sultana Sumi, a master’s student of the college and the convener of the movement, told reporters that they would continue their movement until their demands is met.
Their other demands include increasing transport and library facilities for them.
