Holy Ashura observed amid religious fervor

The holy Ashura, marking the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA), grand son of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was observed on Tuesday in the Port City as elsewhere in the district with due religious solemnity.
Entrapped by Yazid’s forces, on this day, 10th Muharram, in the Hijri year 61, Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA), his family members and close relations embraced martyrdom in Karbala to uphold the spirit of Islam and the teachings of the Great Prophet.
About 1332 years ago, Imam Hossain (RA) had to make supreme sacrifice to uphold the spirit of Islam and the teachings of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad
Besides, this day is very important day in human history and has been observed as a major sacred day by Muslims for reasons obvious which were mentioned briefly in the holy Quarn as well as elaborately in the Hadith.
The first Tazia Michil was brought out from Sadarghat Imambara mosque with huge participation led by Moulana Azad which paraded New Market, GOP, Kotwali which ended at Sadarghat. The procession was held peacefully without any nuisances.
Meanwhile, a grand Suuniya Tazia procession was brought out Kulshi area carrying flags of Islamic values and makeshift of Imam Hossan’s coffin. On the other hand another Tazia procession was brought out from Wireless colony of Pahartali with huge participations of devotees which paraded the city roads .
Different religious organizations have chalked out various programmes to observe the day in a befitting manner.
Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television, private TV channels and private radio stations will air special programmes while newspapers and online news portals published special articles highlighting the significance of the day.
In the procession, the Shia Muslims expressed profound grief by flagellating themselves on the back with chains and also beating their heads intending to connect with the sufferings of Imam Hossain (RA). Pilgrims mostly dressed in black, blared traditional Ashura chants through
loudspeakers. Different religious organisations and political parties have also chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day.
