The Dhaka North and South City Corporations have increased holding tax for various sectors after 13 years to mobilize more revenue from the city dwellers, official sources said.
The Local Government division has issued a gazette notification in this regard on March 2.
Under the new directive, owners of lands, homes and businesses (trade license) will have to pay additional taxes to get the services from the city corporations.
It has raised building and land taxes to 7.0 per cent which was 3.0 per cent and 6.0 per cent respectively. Provisions have also been kept to collect tax from wealth transfer, sewerage and providing health services in the city corporation areas. Some new sectors have also been included in the tax net, according to the gazette notification.
