Staff Reporter :
Chief Election Commissioner K M Nurul Huda has said that holding of the next parliamentary election is a great challenge for Election Commission (EC).
The CEC said this addressing a workshop organized for the reporters, who cover Election Commission, at Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) on Saturday.
He said, if any party remains rigid with its stand, that will be unfortunate. It is because without all parties’ participation the election won’t be acceptable.
“We will prove that we are neutral and we hope that all the parties will participate in the polls. If any party loses confidence in us that springs from misunderstanding, he added”.
CEC said, election time government is not our matter. Election Commission will try to ensure level playing field for each party.
About the use of EVM, the CEC said, experimentally we will use EVM in Gazipur and Khulna City Corporation polls. If the use of EVM is successful, it will be used in the national polls.
So, K M Huda said, If all the parties and the voters agree to EVM, then Commission will decide to use it. To hold the election manually is difficult. It is time to use modern technology in election system.
The programme was chaired by the PIB’s General Secretary Md. Shah Alamgir. Ministry of Information’s Additional Secretary Abul Hossen was also present.
