The BNP on Tuesday urged the new central committee of the ruling Awami League to hold the National Election soon after forming of a Election Commission by a neutral search committee.
“The nation, hopes that the new central committee of Awami League will work for restoration of democracy in the country. They should forge a neutral search committee after sitting with other parties to form an independent Election Commission and to hold a free and fair national polls immediately,” said, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the Senior Joint-Secretary General of the BNP. He said it in a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan office alleging that AL’s Council had no target but to cling to power by any means.
“The Prime Minister said in his speech at the council that BNP would not be allowed to return to power. AL will retain the power. It indicated what a fierce situation was waiting for the next polls,” Rizvi said.
He said, that in the past, the search committee formed some Election Commissions. But they acted as a subservient to the Prime Minister.
“If the next search committee forms such type of backbone less EC, the politics and democracy from the country will go to the graveyard,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rizvi said, the government did not allow the party’s Joint Secretary
General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal to go to Thailand to take care of his injured son, who is under treatment in that country. Rizvi condemned the government’s act by saying Alal’s date of passport was okay and the court ordered the government not to harass him, but the government had no respect for law and ethics.
BNP central leaders Abdus Salam, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Abdus Salam Azad, Taiful Islam Tipu, Munir Hossain and Belal Ahmed, among others, were present in the programme.
