Bangladesh U-18 national hockey team flies to Thai capital Bangkok on April 24th to participate in the ten team qualifiers of 2018 Summer Youth Olympics.
The top two teams of the six day meet, the champions and the runners-up will qualify for Youth Olympics scheduled to be held at Argentine capital Buenos Aires in October, 2018.
All the top hockey playing nations of Asia will participate in the meet with Bangladesh grouped with Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Chinese Taipei and Cambodia in group A while group B consists India, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and hosts Thailand.
Bangladesh qualified for the last edition of Youth Olympic hockey back in 2014 in Nanjing but this year the scenario is different. “This time all the leading hockey nations have entered in the meet, in the last edition a number of them skipped the tournament, so proceeding to the final will be a tough job” said Gobinathan Krishnamurti, the Malaysian head coach of Bangladesh.
