Historic Mujibnagar Day observed

Officials and politicians at a discussion on Tuesday called for informing true national history to young generations for inspiring them in building a ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
They made the call at the discussion organised by the district administration on ‘Historic Mujibnagar Day and Independence of Bangladesh’ at Town Hall here to observe the historic Mujibnagar Day- 2018.
The district administration, district and city units of Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies hoisted the national flag, placed wreaths at the portraits of Bangabandhu and four national leaders and organised separate discussions here in observance of the day.
Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed addressed the main discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib in the chair.
Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police for Rangpur Range Bashir Ahmed, Zila Parishad Chairman Advocate Chhafia Khanom, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rabiul Islam, Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its Office Secretary Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, General Secretary of city AL Tushar Kanti Mandal addressed, as special guests.
The speakers recalled enormous importance of the historic day and said that the War of Liberation got a precise dimension in the world arena on this day in 1971 when the provisional government in exile took oath at Baiddonathtola in Meherpur.
Advocate Chhafia Khanom said the national flag was hoisted on that day there after renaming Baiddonathtola as Mujibnagar as a mark of tribute to Bangabandhu who was declared as the President of the government-in-exile.
“Tens of hundreds of the heroic freedom fighters, senior AL leaders, local and foreign journalists were present on the occasion to witness the historic moment,” she added.
Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed said Syed Nazrul Islam took oath as the acting president in the absence of Bangabandhu, Tazuddin Ahmad as the first Prime Minister, while Khandaker Mostaq Ahmed, Captain M Mansur Ali and AHM Quamaruzzaman as the cabinet ministers.
The chief guest called upon everybody to disseminate the true national history among young generations to bring them up with patriotic zeal and work unitedly to make Bangladesh a middle-income nation by 2021 and a developed country by 2041.
Later, a colourful cultural function was arranged at the same venue.
