Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mohajote (BJHM) fears communal attacks on the minorities across the country centering the Union Parishad (UP) elections to be held with party tickets for the first time on March 22.
“Like in the past, this time also, the Hindus fear attack
on their houses, temples and deities, and torture of their women,” Palash Kanti Dey, spokesman of the National Alliance of the Hindus, said at a press conference in the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Friday.
The leaders of the BJHM also demanded of taking appropriate measures to ensure the safety of the minorities.
They also warned of tough movement in case of the government’s failure to protect the minority communities, including the Hindus.
Attacks on minorities have become a phenomenon during elections, he claimed.
“Elections are synonymous with repression of Hindus in the country.”
Referring to the violence against religious minorities following the 2001 Parliamentary elections, Palash Kanti Dey said, “We fear a recurrence of those incidents.”
He urged the UP candidates not to blame the Hindus for their positive defeat.
“We demand security of the Hindu women, and the houses, business and religious establishments of the community.”
