The locals of Bandarban’s Roangchori have held a man who they are accusing of raping and killing a young woman.
According to them, a 20-year-old Marma girl was raped on Friday evening and then thrown into a gorge.
The accused, Roshod Tongchonga, was captured and then handed over to the police by locals.
Roangchori Upazila Chairman Kabamong Marma said the girl was doing her rounds of weekly grocery shopping at Roangchori Bazaar.
He said she was attacked in the evening near Bengchori Hill while she was returning home from the bazaar.
Roangchori’s OC Abdul Sattar said the police found the woman’s body early on Saturday and sent it for post-mortem. Charges of rape and murder have been pressed against the accused.
